Mason's Re-birthday

Surgery is today. 01/10/11

We know we are second on the surgery list but the nurses tell us this really doesn't mean much except Mason will have his surgery sometime today. It could be 7 in the morning or it could be 7 at night. I will update or my friend Tiff will update everyone the second we have an actual time.

So pray. Or send good wishes, good thoughts, JuJu. Throw a penny in a wishing well if you happen to pass one. We would appreciate it more than we can say.

George and I are so grateful for all the love and support you have all given us. We honestly never realized how much just a few words could come to mean so much to us. We feel like we are on this journey with you and it's so much better with company.

George and I are asking everyone to please do not text or call us.

Please understand that we love and appreciate everyone's support more than we can express but for the next few days we need this time to concentrate on caring for Mason. We are asking this of both our family and friends. We will be calling our mother's to update them and Aunt Tiff is on duty to update the blog. Again please understand we are asking this only because we need this to allow us to concentrate Mason and his recovery and for no other reason.

While we are at the bed side we cannot have our phones on so we can't see text messages or answer phone calls anyway

We need to have our phones on 24/7 so the Dr's can contact us anytime in case Mason is in crisis and the phone calls and text messages are draining our batteries.

Sleep, for the next two days, will be almost non-existent for George and I we both will be catching catnaps whenever and if we can. Since we can't turn off our phones we might be woken up and getting even less sleep than we otherwise would have.

We would love love love it if you would leave a message here on the blog for Mason. Or if you would rather send an email. When I put together Mason's memory book I am going to be including all the messages of love and support. I want him to really know how so many people were there for him and for us.
I am at Mason's bedside now and don't plan on leaving till he goes to surgery so I will have hours to update the blog. I have so many details to share about our boy and the last few days.
Again, you are all such a blessing to us. I honestly don't know how we got so lucky to have so much love and support sent our way. Thank you

I'm in Tears reading your blog. Although my son avoided surgery 6 years ago, I felt much of the pain you are experiencing. he was transferred to John Hopkins 24 hours after delivery and I couldn't get discharged after my CS. That was so hard - I am so happy to hear you are going with your baby. Hang in there.
Me and my family will be praying for yours.

I will pray send JuJu and send my loving thoughts all coming your way. My family asks everyday what Mason's status is...when I read them your blog they are in disbelief as how much you and your family are going through. We all hope everything will be ok and you can take Mason home soon. We love you, The McCarty Family

Having babies is a gift and a miracle and leaves us so raw to emotion, happiness and worry and joy, and fear. I ask for this mommies heart to be at peace, knowing you have this baby in your hands like you have always. I ask you God to protect him today and guide the surgeons supernaturally with wisdom each and every moment. I thank you ahead of time for his quick recovery and his beautiful future, you have plans for this boy and I ask that you bring him into the fullness of those plans. Peace, be still, lay all your burdens down God is in control and God is for us who and what shall we fear? Amen.

Sending you all my prayers. I am thinking of you and praying for the surgeons as well, that they are strong and steady in what they are experts at doing. I pray for Amy and George to give you both the strength and rest you need to care for your beautiful sons. And I pray for Mason to grow strong and have a long and healthy life.

I know that we don't know each other. I found out about your baby on the blog of the family that you booked a room for at Disney. I am praying for you and your baby Mason. My neice was also born with a hole in her heart. We will pray for you two to get some rest as you can and for Mason to be strong through all of this.

Hi. My name is Scott, You do not know me. I heard about you on my wife’s face book. I am 52 years old and I had TOF and had my first open heart surgery in 1962. I had one more at 16 and then a redo the next day. The reason for the surgery at 16 was because of a procedure that they do not do any longer. I am in good health for someone my age in general. And have very little trouble with my heart that can be related to my “Heart Condition”. I have a great active job in health care, I am married to a great Lady we just had our 31st anniversary this month.
If I may offer a small bit of advice My parents never let me think of myself as sick instead if there was something that I could not do they just said “Fine go do something you can do” Even though I never played sports I really enjoyed swimming and by the time I was 15 I swam about 2.5 miles one afternoon the summer before my last surgery. I am sharing this about myself in the hope that it will encourage you. Please know that my wife and I are praying for you and your child.

I'm another mommy with a little boy with a heart problem. My son has bicuspid Aortic Stenosis. He had valveoplasti at 2 weeks old and a redo again at 6 weeks old. He is now 10 years old and his cardiologist thinks it is nearing the time of his open-heart surgery (valve replacement). As scary as it seems, these docs are pros and they do this pretty routinely. Your sweet baby is in good hands and I am sending you good ju-ju because I don't do the praying thing.

Reading your posts made me remember what a scary time it was (and will be again for us). Luckily you seem to have a great support network and the internet is a great resource to network with others in the same boat.

I will keep checking up on "Jelly."

;)

I found you through Couponing to Disney, and I have been thinking of you and your family often! Our own son was born 15 weeks prematurely. He also needed heart surgery when he was less than 10 days old to a (prematurity-related) heart problem. We spent a loooong time in the NICU, but our story has a very happy ending - we have a beautiful, thriving toddler now! I am so hopeful that your story will end as well, and we will continue to send our positive energy your way!

I'm a little late posting this but I've been thinking about Mason a lot over the past few days. I've never thought of myself as a religious person and perhaps more spiritual either way I've never really prayed. Between whats going on in my own life and Mason's story, I've been praying a lot over the last few days. And I hope and pray that Mason will come out of this all just fine. xo
